June 2002

An Interview with Dr. Edgar Villanueva, posted on Friday, May 24, 2002 on Linux Journal by Richard Vernon and Don Marti. The Peruvian Congressman speaks on his experience with free software, his inspiration and the future of free software in Peru. See [interview] for the complete story.

Some new [links] were added including info on how to uninstall the IE from your Windows98, the site of the Proxomitron and a list of sites with lies and propaganda.

May 2002

An Uruguayan friend sent me this interesting story. Apparently, the Peruvian Congress is discussing a new law which will oblige the state and its agencies to use Free Source Software. A letter was written by Microsoft Peru, advising to the contrary. A Congressman has responded and his letter explains thoroughly why WE should use Free Source Software instead of Commercial or Proprietary crap. A must read! See [peru.htm] for the complete story.

April 2002

Microsoft, the software giant, was involved in an antipiracy court case in Nanterre, France. Only this time it was the accused! The story appeared in Le Monde Informatique in the end of November of 2001 but strangely enough, it was not mentioned in the mainstream media. According to [PC World Malta] (Original Disappeared this is a local copy), Microsoft France has been fined over four hundred thousand dollars (USD$400,000.00) for software piracy.
Here is [the Article].

March 2002

On the 23rd of October 2000 the Brazilian daily O Globo, of Rio de Janeiro published [this story]. It is an excerpt from a debate in an American University between Cristovam Buarque, a Brazilian Professor of the Universidade Nacional do Brasil, and ex-governor of Brasilia, Distrito Federal, and a student.

The professor was asked to respond, as a humanist and not as a Brazilian, to a call for the internationalization of the Amazon Region in order to save it from fires and logging activities.
